Natural
State Performance Network is intended to create a community of people -
primarily based in the UK - who are interested in and have experiences
of public-participation art events.
The group has a specific
focus on people who are interested in naked performance but welcomes
other opportunities and people with experience of public-participation
art that is costumed or fully-dressed.
The group is intended
to be a gathering place for like-minded individuals looking for
opportunities to participate in art events, public performances and
installations for a range of artists. A place to share events and
experiences of being an 'ordinary person' taking part in artistic
events.
The group is primarily
aimed at amateurs and 'non-performers', acknowledging that experience
has the advantage of turning ordinary people who are 'amateur' and
'non-performers' into people who are able to deliver performances,
behave professionally, collaborate, contribute, learn movement and
basic choreography and generally become performers in a genuine sense
through participation and learning.
The group acknowledges that there are many people who simply want to turn up on the day and take part for the experience.
The group is also intended to be a point of contact for artists,
photographers, performances artists and other creative individuals
looking to recruit members of the public - ordinary people with or
without experience or skills - to populate their projects and events.
Especially that happy band of people who are not only willing to go
naked but can bring experience to the table.
We will be the
people who will commit to rehearsals if necessary, who will turn up as
promised, will behave in a professional manner and generally give of
ourselves for ourselves for artists in the name of art. We do it because
we love it and because it enriches us and gives us the opportunity to
step out of our ordinary lives to be extraordinary and to help make art
happen.
The group is not intended to replace any other groups
and should work alongside other Facebook groups and events set up for
specific events and opportunities as they occur.
The group was
created by Peter Jacobs, himself a 'non-performer' with no specific
skills, who has in a relatively short time taken part in events,
performances and installations for artists as diverse, talented and
interesting as Spencer Tunick, Angelo Musco, Adam James, JocJonJosch,
Completely Naked, Ron Athey, Roshana Rubin-Mayhew, Jeremy Deller, Hannah
Nicklin, Clifford Owens, Leda Franklin and Daniel Knorr. He has taken
part in events in the UK and Europe, including Manchester International Festival, Liverpool Biennial, The Place's Resolution festival, as well
as in galleries, art spaces, theatres, public places and fields.
Natural
State Performance Network at this point in its infancy exists primarily
on Facebook. Over time, who knows where this all might lead...
